Contrary to earlier reports, the agent of Ryan Stoa denies that his client has not in fact agreed to play in the KHL next season, Alex Prewitt of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
It had been reported earlier that Stoa, who appeared in only three games for the Caps last season, was bound for Mettalurg Magnitogorsk in the KHL, but his agent claims that "he's not signed...there's nothing to it". Stoa's camp insists their desire is to re-sign with the Capitals. With a renewed attention to making their minor-league affiliate more competitive, there may be room for Stoa in the Capitals organization, but his limited production at the NHL level and the uphill battle he faces to make the opening night roster does not afford him much consideration outside of the deepest of leagues.

Currently, Stoa is merely a depth forward with little fantasy value. He will open the season with Hersey (AHL).
Stoa was a disappointment for the Avs last season (three points in 12 games), but the team clearly thinks highly of the 22-year-old based on the number of recalls he received. He is expected to battle for a roster spot in training camp this fall, but figures to play no higher than the third line if he does manage to make the team. Stoa possesses plenty of all-round skill, but for now his fantasy appeal is limited.
Stoa, the Avs' second-round pick in 2005, was the University of Minnesota's captain last season and led the team with 46 points (24G, 22A). He has developed into a solid power forward, with good size and speed. Stoa will be competing for one of the center positions on the team this season and could find himself on the second or third line.
Stoa was drafted by the Avs in second round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, 34th overall. He is developing into a solid power forward, with good size and speed. He missed most of last season with the University of Minnesota due to a knee injury. Another season at the NCAA level is likely.
Despite having great size at 6-3 and almost 215 pounds, Stoa's production actually dropped in his sophomore season at the University of Minnesota, due in part to the amount of talented players on the Golden Gophers roster. Stoa will likely consider turning pro, but after coming off a bit of a tough season, he would be better off returning to college for at least his junior season.
Will be a sophomore at the University of Minnesota. In 2005-06, as a freshman, Stoa scored 25 points (10 goals, 15 assists) in 41 games. He also accumulated 43 penalty minutes.
Stoa can play the boards with the best of them already. He's smart, strong on his skates and loves to play in traffic. At 6'3" and already 210 lbs, Stoa projects as either a power forward or a skilled centerman. He and his raw talent are University of Minnesota bound for 2005-2006, and he may very well get to play alongside 2006 phenom Phil Kessel.
