Danis has signed a one-year deal with St. John's of the American Hockey League.
ANALYSIS
Danis, 35, has a smattering of NHL experience (55 games) but is known mostly as a minor-league grinder, having played 376 combined games in the AHL and ECHL. He was brought in for St. John's after the team allowed 13 goals in its first three games.

Danis is a journeyman who posted a 2.59 goals against average in AHL competition last season. While Danis has some NHL experience, it would take several injuries to the Flyers' other netminders for him to make the NHL roster.
Danis still sits third on the Oilers' goaltender depth chart and may stay there until either Nikolai Khabibulin is no longer with the team or management feels Devan Dubnyk is not the future between the pipes. He will be the starter for Oklahoma City of the AHL and will get a call to the big club should an injury arise.
Danis played with Russia of the KHL last season but with Martin Gerber and Jeff Deslauriers no longer with the organization, Danis will give the Oilers depth in the crease.
Danis signed with the Devils in July and likely will be the primary backup to Martin Brodeur. He'll see a handful of starts a season. His only value will be based on Brodeur's health.
Danis will compete with Joey MacDonald for the role of Rick DiPietro's back up. Even if he does win the job, his fantasy value would range from limited to none.
Danis is now fourth on the organizational depth chart. He has no value this season unless Huet gets traded and either Halak or Price gets injured.
Danis will start the year as the third goalie. Still, Danis has the skill set to be at least a number 2 goalie in the NHL this season. It remains to be seen if Montreal decides to move backup goalie David Aebischer. At this juncture it appears that it will take injuries and/or really bad goaltending by the top two Habs goalies before Danis gets a chance to shine. Danis had but five such opportunities last season but went 3-2 with a 2.69 GAA and a .908 SV %. The latter two stats were superior to Aebischer by the way.
