Bergenheim is calling it a career and retiring from professional hockey, Jameson Olive of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Bergenheim was playing with Frolunda HC this season, but after four outings, will hang up his skates. The Finn last appeared in the NHL in 2014-15 when he split time between Florida and Minnesota. All told, the winger logged 506 NHL games in which he netted 96 goals, 84 assists and 379 PIM.

Bergenheim brought a bit of everything to the Panthers in 2013-14, putting up 29 points, 190 shots, and 111 hits in 62 games. With the influx of new talent to South Florida, Bergenheim may see a reduced role, especially on the power play, but he should make contributions across a number of categories nevertheless.
Bergenheim suffered a season-ending groin injury while playing in Finland during the 2012 NHL lockout, but has since undergone successful surgery and should be ready to go when the season rolls around. The winger recorded 17 goals and six assists in 62 games with the Panthers in 2011-12, and somewhere in that 25-point range is likely where he'll fall again this year, considering he hasn't posted less than 22 or more than 29 points at any point in his NHL career.
Bergenheim posted 23 points (17 G, 6 A) in 62 games played for the Panthers this past season. Bergenheim has limited offensive potential, but his ability to score goals makes him an attractive option worth taking a flier on in deeper leagues.
Bergenheim tallied 29 points (14 goals, 15 assists) in 80 games played this past season for Tampa. The regular season point production was less than to be desired. However, it's Bergenheim's explosive post season (9 goals and two assists in 16 games played) that has Florida thinking of big things for the left winger in the upcoming season.
Bergenheim is a spare part who has never lived up to expectations. He'll roll on a lower line in Tampa, that is if he even earns a spot. It's far more likely that he ends up toiling in the AHL this season. Scratch him off your draft list.
Bergenheim took another step forward in his development in 2008-09. He did not post gaudy numbers to say the least, but he did set career-highs in goals (15), points (24), shorthanded goals (4) and game-winning goals (5). He has the potential to pad his point totals a little more, but heading into the season, he remains a low-end fantasy option at best.
Bergenheim got off to a very slow start in 2007-08, but his play on both ends of the ice improved as the season went on. 2008-09 will be an important year for him as the team will be giving some youngsters a long look to see if they can compete at this level every night. We don't think he'll be of major fantasy relevance this year, but he should be monitored to see if his progress continues.
A contract dispute forced Bergenheim overseas for 2006-07, a year which may have served him better if he was in the AHL. He's under contract for one year with the Isles, but unless he lands on a scoring line, he may not have enough opportunity to make a splash.
Bergenheim signed with Frolunda of the Swedish Elite League for the 2006-07 season.
Bergenheim did not standout in his 18 game audition for the Isles in 2003-04. He projects to be a decent NHL winger: he can skate, is not afraid to shoot, and can be utilized in different situations. He may need some more seasoning, however, so he may shuttle back and forth between the AHL and NHL this year.
