Paille, who uses his wheels to kill penalties and generate a decent amount of chances on offense, has generally been a fixture on the Bruins’ fourth line during his tenure with the team. While that may remain the case this season with Shawn Thornton having moved on, there’s a chance the B’s could retool their grinder line, with Paille potentially moving up to the team’s third troika. While the speedster isn't known as a great finisher, such a promotion would likely result in an uptick in production, on the heels of a 2013-14 season in which Paille notched nine goals and 18 points in 72 games.

Consistency continues to be a problem for the former first-round draft pick, who had only two points in the month of January. This season the pressure is on for Paille to perform early or else he could be without a job on the Sabres’ roster.
Paille has the talent to occupy a second-line role at some point, but he hasn't put it all together yet. Paille scored 19 goals and added 16 assists and a plus-9 rating in a third/fourth-line role last season. He figures to open 2008-09 on the fourth line unless he has a great training camp or injuries strike the Sabres.
Paille had a chance to cement himself as a key component of Buffalo's future last season, but he fell short of the mark, in part because of a broken finger that cost him five weeks. He wasn't overly impressive when he did receive a chance to play and he fell behind Drew Stafford and possibly also Marek Zagrapan on the Sabres' list of prospects. Paille has a chance to win a full-time role with a strong training camp, but he'll probably be a depth winger even if things go well.
