The 31-year-old German serves as a third- or fourth-line center and usually does his job well. Pittsburgh thought enough of him to re-sign the forward after trading for him at the deadline. He's never scored more than 30 points in a season, however, and doesn't contribute with many hits or blocked shots. Goc averaged nearly two minutes of time on the penalty-killing unit and won 57.3 percent of his draws for the Pens, but it's unlikely he finds his way onto the scoresheet most nights.
Goc recorded 19 points in 42 games in 2013, and is expected to center the third line in Sunrise this season. If he can get in that 35-40 point range in 2013-14, he's certainly a valuable fantasy commodity.
Goc posted a 9-15-24 stat line during the 2011-2012 campaign and can once again be counted on to hover in the 20-30 point range. Goc tends to score in bunches, having a 23-game stretch that featured 16 points last season, and can be a solid sleeper option if you happen to own him at the right time. Until that time, reserve Goc for only the deepest of leagues.
Goc scored nine goals and added 15 assists last season for the Predators. Signed by the Panthers in the offseason, Goc brings 20-30-point potential to the new-look Panthers, and will have to work hard to establish himself as a relevant fantasy option. Goc has breakout potential and could benefit from the change of scenery. However, Goc is best reserved for only the deepest leagues until he would work his way up to a top-six role with the Panthers, far from a sure thing at this time.
Goc scored a career-high 30 points for the Preds last season, which isn't bad considering he plays on the third or fourth line most nights. In fact, coach Barry Trotz did not hesitate to use him in a scoring role last season when needed - at one point, Goc was even centering the first line for a short time while Jason Arnott was out with injury. Unfortunately, the team doesn't really consider him a long-term solution as a scoring center, thus limiting his fantasy value to ultra-deep leagues.
Goc moves over to the Predators after spending his entire career in San Jose. He only put up 11 points in 55 games last season and has never had a positive plus/minus rating. Goc isn't a scorer and isn't particularly defensively sound, so he won't do you much good.
Goc is utilized on the Sharks' checking line quite often -- not what a potential fantasy owner likes to hear. The German had five goals and three assists in 51 games for the Sharks in 2007-08 and has hit the gym frequently this off-season in order to log more minutes. His role will need to increase dramatically in order to warrant value in fantasy leagues.
Goc enters his third season into the NHL and has yet to find that scoring touch. He registered only 13 points (five goals and eight assists) in 78 games last season. But the Sharks don’t look for Goc to find the back of the net, rather playing on the penalty kill and winning faceoffs. Expect about 15 points out of Goc, not enough to make a case for him to be on your roster.
He's a pesky third-line center who might be able to step up to 30 points or so as a sophomore. Is that the difference in your league? Didn't think so.
Maybe he's got a shot to be a third or fourth line forward, but no one has designs on Goc being a top six guy anytime soon. Until he bulks up a little or sharpens his scoring touch, you can ignore him for the time being.
