Saturday's NHL slate begins at 1:30 PM Eastern time and features 10 games. There are plenty of options to choose from, but the players below stand out as either value plays or options to avoid at their respective prices. These players come from all across the price spectrum and can fit into lineups nicely regardless of contest format.
GOALIE
Sergei Bobrovsky, CLS vs. ANH ($27): Bobrovsky's not having one of his prototypical elite seasons, but he showed Thursday that he can still handle a low-tier offense at home, making 29 saves in a 4-1 win over the Kings. Look for him to replicate those results against another offensively challenged visitor from the West coast -- the Ducks rank fourth from the bottom with just 2.55 goals per game.
GOALIE TO AVOID
Jonathan Quick, LA at PIT ($29): Quick's recent injury history appears to have taken a toll on him, as he's looked a step slow this season with a 3.30 GAA and .892 save percentage. Even if he finds his game against Pittsburgh's top-10 offense, Quick will have a hard time getting in the win column while being backed by the league's worst offense -- 2.15 goals per game.
CENTER
Sean Couturier, PHI at VAN ($19): Couturier showed no ill effects from the lower-body injury that sidelined him for two games, returning in style Tuesday with two goals and an assist. His season got off to a slow start, but Couturier's looked more like the player that posted 76 points last season of late, with eight goals and 18 points over his past 14 appearances. A matchup with a Canucks club that's allowing 3.32 goals per game offers a nice opportunity to keep rolling.
CENTER TO AVOID
Frans Nielsen, DET at NYI ($17): Nielsen throws in too many duds to trust at $17 -- nine of his past 15 games have resulted in 2.7 or fewer fantasy points. This is a revenge game for the former Islanders center, but his chances of breaking through against New York's better than average defense look slim.
WINGS
James Neal, CGY at MIN ($10): If you're going bargain hunting to clear up cap space for a few elite players, consider turning Neal's way. His price has dropped to the minimum $10 for the first time this season, and the veteran sniper's primed to turn things around. Neal's still getting plenty of opportunities -- he's eclipsed 18 minutes of ice time in three of the past eight games, including the most recent. At some point, a guy who's never finished with a shooting percentage below 10.4 or fewer than 21 goals in a season is bound to see improvements on his current 4.1 conversion rate and three goals through 32 games.
Craig Smith, NSH vs. NJ ($20): Smith's doing a great job of picking up the slack while a few of Nashville's top offensive weapons are sidelined, with four goals, two assists and a plus-4 rating over the past six games. With a role on the second line and top power-play unit, Smith should get plenty of chances to keep rolling against a Devils team that surrenders the fourth-most goals per game and is playing the second leg of a back-to-back.
WINGS TO AVOID
Colton Sceviour, FLA vs. TOR ($16): Sceviour doesn't have the production or ice time to justify a $16 valuation, especially against a formidable opponent like Toronto. He has just seven points through 28 games and an ice-time average of 12:34, which he's only eclipsed in three of the past nine games. Meanwhile, Toronto's outscoring opponents 3.56 to 2.78 in the average game.
Blake Coleman, NJ at NSH ($17): Coleman's regressing as expected after a surprisingly hot start. You have to go back to Nov. 15 to find the last multi-point performance from the 27-year-old, who's never scored more than 25 points in a season. Picking things up offensively will be exceedingly difficult against a Predators team that allows a league-low 2.50 goals per game.
DEFENSEMEN
Shea Weber, MON vs. OTT ($24): Weber's been everything Montreal fans could have hoped for since making his season debut on Nov. 27, racking up three goals and three assists in eight games. His ice time hasn't dipped below 23:59, and Weber's already put 28 pucks on net as well. While Weber's role on the top power-play unit is yet to translate into any points with the extra man, that could well change against a Senators team that has the league's second-worst penalty kill, gives up the most goals per game overall and is playing its second game in as many nights.
Matthew Dumba, MIN vs. CGY ($21): Dumba's been Minnesota's most proficient power-play contributor this season -- he leads the team with 12 power-play points and is tied for the team lead with six power-play goals. Calgary's a formidable opponent, but the Flames' 78.2 percent penalty kill is worse than league average. Dumba can also get the job done in other situations, as his 12 goals lead all defensemen, with Toronto's Morgan Rielly (10) the only other blueliner in double digits.
DEFENSEMEN TO AVOID
Tyson Barrie, COL vs. DAL ($21): Barrie has grown less reliant on the power play this season, but it's still integral to his production. Eight of his 22 points this season and 30 of his 57 points last season have come with the extra man. Playing the second night of a back-to-back, Barrie's unlikely to post one of his more productive outings against a Dallas team that sports the league's fifth-stingiest penalty kill and allows the third-fewest goals per game overall.
Jake Muzzin, LA at PIT ($19): Muzzin being $2 more expensive than more productive Kings blueliner Drew Doughty doesn't make much sense. Doughty's the far superior play, but neither makes for an appealing option given their limited offensive production and the rating downside presented by the difficult matchup at hand.
