Hot
Mike Green (D) Washington- Green has had his fair share of ups and downs on the season already, but he has now started to pick up the pace with points in four straight games. If you own him, then sit and wait as he could get himself back to his status as an elite blueliner. If you don't own Green, then you may be able to buy low on him in a trade with a frustrated owner.
Shane Doan (F) Phoenix- Doan had a very slow start to the year, and there were many fantasy owners that considered his fantasy value to be all but non-existent at this stage in his career. However, Doan has quietly picked up a point in his last 6 games and was named the second star of the week in the NHL over the holidays. He may be available on the waiver wire, and if so he definitely deserves a roster spot at this point in the season.
Cold
Alex Ovechkin (F) Washington- It is really hard to ever consider Ovechkin as being cold, as he has the ability to lit the lamp at any time and absolutely take over a game. However, Ovechkin has just 14 goals in 40 games so far this season which puts him on pace for just 29 goals. That would easily be his lowest total ever, and hardly warrants the first overall pick that many fantasy owners used to pick him up.
Recommended Pickup
Kevin Shattenkirk (D) Colorado- Shattenkirk has really stepped up and helped the Avalanche deal with their growing injury problems, but is still available in most leagues. He has now tallied 19 points overall on the season and is really provided unexpected value from the backend. If you need help on D, make the move for Shattenkirk now and hope he keeps up his current pace.
