FanDuel NHL: Tuesday Targets

FanDuel NHL: Tuesday Targets

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.

SLATE PREVIEW

Corey Crawford kept the Blackhawks' heads above water with a 48-save performance in Game 4, and that will provide us two elimination games Tuesday. Both the Golden Knights and the Islanders can advance to the next round with a win tonight. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Vegas is a huge favorite at -200 while the Islanders-Capitals matchup is essentially a pick 'em.

The Flyers (-135) will kick off this slate at 3 p.m. EDT in a series that has had two shutouts in three games. That matchup will be followed up by the Stars (-130) taking on the Flames.

GOALIES

Semyon Varlamov, NYI vs. WAS ($8,400): The Capitals finally tightened up on defense in Game 3, but they can't crack Varlamov, as they've posted just 1.48 xGF/60 this series, good for the fourth-worst among remaining teams, per Natural Stat Trick. Varlamov hasn't been fooled. He's allowed just five goals on 74 shots -- a .920 save percentage.

Carey Price, MON vs. PHI ($7,700): While Carter Hart ($8,500) has been inconsistent, Price has maintained his cool by posting a .935 save percentage or better in all three games this series. It's tough to find a goalie as dependable as Price at this salary range.

Corey Crawford, CHI vs. VGK ($7,200): The Corey Crawford that we saw in Game 4 was the same Corey Crawford that led the Blackhawks to two Stanley Cups. The Blackhawks almost certainly won't pull off the reverse sweep, but that shouldn't dissuade you from rolling the dice on this high-risk play.

VALUE PLAYS

Alexander Radulov, DAL vs. CGY ($5,300): Radulov has been inconsistent in this series as he was in the regular season, but the veteran is lined up with star forwards Tyler Seguin ($7,200) and Jamie Benn ($6,400). He connected with an overtime goal in Game 4 to even the series, so he's an intriguing play again tonight.

Alex DeBrincat, CHI vs. VGK ($5,100): DeBrincat was constantly on the doorstep in Game 3 by firing eight shots on net, and he finally converted, albeit on an empty net, in Game 4 with his first goal since August. He has the potential to go on a tear, and his recent shot volume gives fantasy managers peace of mind.

Tom Wilson, WAS vs. NYI ($4,600): Wilson has been a physical force through three games with a whopping 15 PIM and 19 hits. It's do-or-die for the Capitals tonight, however, and while Wilson won't stop enforcing, he's a skilled offensive contributor, too. Look for him to harvest that on a line with Evgeny Kuznetsov ($6,900) and Alex Ovechkin($8,400) in Game 4.

Chandler Stephenson, VGK vs. CHI ($3,800): Keep an eye on Paul Stastny's (undisclosed) injury status because if Stastny stays out, Stephenson will continue to center Max Pacioretty ($7,100) and Mark Stone ($7,500) on the top line. To put that simpler, he'll remain on a line with two players who combined for 53 goals in the regular season.

Jesperi Kotkaniemi, MON vs. PHI ($3,800): These Flyers-Canadiens matchups tend to be low-scoring by nature of two dominant goaltenders, so it's easy to shy away from line stacks. Kotkaniemi is where we can find value, though, as he has already recorded two goals this series and he's centering dominant forward Max Domi.

LINE STACKS

Calgary Flames vs. Dallas Stars

C - Sean Monahan ($6,600)
W - Johnny Gaudreau ($7,700)
W - Elias Lindholm ($5,500)

They've had their inconsistencies, but the Flames' first line is trending up after combining for four points last game. With Ben Bishop (undisclosed) still on the shelf, too, it keeps the ceiling high since Anton Khudobin has an .899 save percentage against the Flames in August.

New York Islanders vs. Washington Capitals

C - Brock Nelson ($5,800)
W - Anthony Beauvillier ($5,300)
W - Josh Bailey ($4,700)

It's easy to fly under the radar with the Islanders. They play a defensive game. It's even easier to fly under the radar when you're playing second fiddle to the flashy Mathew Barzal line. However, Nelson's unit has been just as good -- if not better -- with a combined 20 points through seven August games.

DEFENSEMEN

John Carlson, WAS vs. NYI ($6,700): The Capitals have scored five goals in this series and Carlson has an assist on four of those. If the Caps stay alive tonight, it'll be because of Carlson, and his consistency despite the Caps' struggles eases my mind.

Mark Giordano, CGY vs. DAL ($5,500): Giordano has yet to connect on the power play but he's still making a sizable fantasy impact with at least 11.2 points in three straight games thanks to blocked shots and a pair of assists. Count on him to come through soon with the man advantage, as Dallas ranks 14th among remaining teams with a 73.9 penalty-kill percentage.

Miro Heiskanen, DAL vs. CGY ($5,100): Heiskanen continues to roll with four points in four games versus Calgary, and he has averaged 3.5 shots on net and two blocked shots per contest in that stretch. He's played at least 25 minutes in each game this series, too.

Erik Gustafsson, CGY vs. DAL ($3,900): If you like Giordano's ceiling without the safety net, Gustafsson's your guy. He plays on the top power-play unit and has four helpers -- two on the power play -- in August.
