FanDuel NHL: Monday Targets

SLATE PREVIEW

It's Remembrance Day in Canada and only the Senators are in action, as they complete their home-and-home series against the Hurricanes. The Sens are 1-5-1 with a minus-8 goal differential on the road but the Hurricanes have allowed four goals or more in each of their past four games, all of which have been losses.

The Capitals have not lost in regulation since Oct. 14, going 10-0-1 with a plus-19 goal differential since. They're in familiar territory with excellent special teams play and a Norris-caliber defenseman, posing a formidable challenge to the Coyotes.

GOALIES

Anders Nilsson ($7,300) has been sneaky-good this season, sixth in save percentage (.930), seventh in save percentage at even strength (.938) and sixth in GSAA (4.75). Those are incredible numbers for a hockey team famous mostly for non-hockey reasons, and stealing a game from Carolina isn't a tall order. Expected starter Petr Mrazek ($7,900) is going through a lull again with 10 goals allowed in his past three starts, two of which have been losses.

Braden Holtby ($8,000) has been very good for the Caps lately, and he'll likely get his third straight start coming off a 30-save win against Vegas. He comes cheaper than Darcy Kuemper ($8,400), who has allowed seven goals in his past two games and gets far less goal support; the Coyotes are 20th in GF/PG at 2.82.

VALUE PLAYS/ONE-OFFS

Anthony Duclair ($4,200) will be a popular pick with five goals and three assists in eight games on a team bereft of top-six ability. Vladislav Namestnikov ($4,500) and even the rarely-used Filip Chlapik ($3,200) are also intriguing options against a team that doesn't mind playing a wide-open offensive game. Both players scored in a 4-1 win against Carolina on Saturday. Hurricane prospect Martin Necas ($3,600) has four points in five games.

The Coyotes might have trouble scoring but Nick Schmaltz ($5,000) has four helpers in five games, giving him 15 points this season. He's a far better bang for your buck than Derek Stepan ($4,800), who has just six points this season.

FORWARD LINE STACKS

OTT Ottawa Senators (TOTAL: $13,400)
C – Chris Tierney ($3,900)
W – Brady Tkachuk ($5,300)
W – Anthony Duclair ($4,200)

This line was getting buried last game, but it's still the most talented Sens line. Duclair is having his best season ever, Tkachuk is scoring again and both players registered a point against Carolina on Saturday. Filip Chlapik's line was very good in limited action and could be worth a shot if they get more playing time.

WAS Washington Capitals (TOTAL: $21,200)
C – Nicklas Backstrom ($5,900)
W – Alex Ovechkin ($9,000)
W – T.J. Oshie ($6,300)

You can never go wrong with this line. At his worst Ovechkin will still probably be the nightly leader for SOG. Oshie's a bit of an anchor on this line because he doesn't score at a pace of a first-line winger. Oshie can swapped out for the cheaper Wilson; although Wilson no longer plays with Ovechkin, it's a line Todd Reirden can go back to for certain situations in a game.

WAS Washington Capitals (TOTAL: $17,800)

C – Evgeny Kuznetsov ($7,500)
W – Jakub Vrana ($5,800)
W – Tom Wilson ($4,500)

If Oveckin's line is the vintage muscle, then Kuznetsov's the new sports car; a bit more fragile with some room to grow, but tantalizing with its potential. Vrana has 10 points in seven games and Wilson has four goals and six points in four games. As good as the Coyotes are defensively, defending the Caps will be tough with two very good lines.

DEFENSEMEN

John Carlson ($7,100) continues to dominate and worth every penny for an elite defenseman. There's no one else in his class right now.

Dougie Hamilton ($6,500) comes close. He has two points and 13 shots in two games and he's in the tier just below Carlson. You start taking chances in the next tier with Oliver Ekman-Larsson ($5,300), Thomas Chabot ($5,300) and Jaccob Slavin ($4,900). They're really good defensemen who don't dominate in any specific category and usually more focused on shutting down the opposition's top players.

Jakob Chychrun ($3,800) has scored in two straight games and one thing he's always been known for is his booming shot. The presence of OEL limits his time on the power play, but he continues to fire at a high pace anyway with 14 shots in his past three games.
