DraftKings NHL: Monday Picks

DraftKings NHL: Monday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

SLATE PREVIEW

The NHL trade deadline is at 3 p.m. EDT. We've already seen some big moves with Nick Foligno going to Toronto, Taylor Hall heading to Boston and Kyle Palmieri going to the New York; there should be a few more big pieces to move today. Keep an eye out. Any player that is traded likely won't be available for Monday's games due to COVID-19 protocol.

GOALIES

Connor Hellebuyck, WPG at OTT ($8,000): Hellebuyck has been outstanding oer the last nine games with a .950 save percentage, a 7-1-1 record and two shutouts. He's been excellent against the Senators this season with a .930 save percentage and a 4-1-0 record as well. Fire up Hellebuyck confidently against the lowly Sens.

Jack Campbell, TOR at MON ($7,900): Campbell keeps on rolling with 11 straight wins and a .934 save percentage to start the season. The Maple Leafs' defense certainly deserves some credit, and so does their offensive support. The Habs aren't a menacing offense, either, as they rank 17th this month with just 2.18 xGF/60 at even strength.

Jordan Binnington, STL at MIN ($7,500): Binnington is red-hot right now with back-to-back wins and just two goals against on 76 shots -- a .974 save percentage. The Wild are a shoo-in for the postseason, but they're in a serious slump of late, ranking 26th in the league during April with a mere 1.91 xGF/60 at even strength.

VALUE PLAYS/ONE-OFFS

Martin Necas, CAR vs. DET ($5,600): Necas is yet another example of the Hurricanes' success with their draft picks. The 22-year-old has put up four multi-point ledgers over the past nine games. Two of those points were on the power play, and he'll carry high-upside against the helpless Red Wings.

Patrik Laine, CLS vs. CHI ($4,700): Laine's time in Columbus hasn't gone as planned, as he scored his first goal in 15 games during Saturday's loss to the Blackhawks. Still, we know he's a dynamic scorer, and now his salary is depressed enough to carve out some value, especially against the Blackhawks' 30th-ranked PK (73.6 percent).

Sammy Blais, STL at MIN ($2,500): Since being promoted to the top six, Blais has put up four points across three games. He has a solid shot and a knack for getting open with Ryan O'Reilly, and the matchup against a struggling Wild team is makes the price right for the 24-year-old winger.

LINE STACKS

Maple Leafs at Canadiens

Auston Matthews (C - $9,200), Mitch Marner (W - $8,100), Alex Galchenyuk (W - $3,600)

When Matthews is hot, there isn't a better goal scorer in the NHL. And he's scorching right now with 10 goals and five assists over the last eight games. Marner has contributed 11 points in that stretch. Galchenyuk is a new addition to this line, and he was able to chip in two helpers during Saturday's win. Their ceiling should be even higher against the Canadiens' abysmal PK (76.4 percent) that ranks 24th in the league.

Blackhawks at Blue Jackets

Kirby Dach (C - $4,200), Alex DeBrincat (W - $7,300), Dylan Strome (W - $3,000)

DeBrincat is ranked fifth in the league with 21 goals, and Dach is starting to heat up with four points over the last six games. When Dach and DeBrincat have been on the ice together, they've generated 2.50 xGF/60 at even strength over the last eight games. They get get a juicy matchup against the Blue Jackets, whom traded strong defensive players Nick Foligno and David Savard over the weekend.

Golden Knights at Kings

William Karlsson (C - $5,200), Reilly Smith (W - $4,100), Jonathan Marchessault (W - $6,000)

This unit has generated a team-high 2.83 xGF/60 at even strength over the last 10 games, and they've capitalized with nine goals and 12 assists in that stretch. The Kings' goaltending is typically what keeps them in games, but even that has faltered lately, as they've allowed 21 goals over the past five games.

DEFENSEMEN

Shea Theodore, VGK at LA ($6,300): Theodore leads all NHL defensemen with 3.83 xGF/60 over the last 10 games, so he should be capitalizing with more than eight points in that stretch. He has surpassed five shots three times during that time, too, and the Kings' flaky defense opens the door for a big game.

Morgan Rielly, TOR at MON ($5,400): Rielly is a strong addition to the aforementioned Maple Leafs stack, as he's accumulated 28 points this season with 11 on the power play. He typically maintains a high shot volume, too, and the Canadiens' suspect PK keeps his ceiling high.

Erik Karlsson, SJ vs. ANH ($4,600): Karlsson has piled up five points over the past seven games, and there's a chance he's underperforming. The veteran blueliner ranks seventh among NHL defensemen during that stretch with 3.32 xGF/60. The Ducks are coming to town Monday, and they're expected to roll out Ryan Miller, who has registered an .882 save percentage and a 3.60 GAA this season.

Jake Gardiner, CAR vs. DET ($2,500): Gardiner returned to a third-pairing role in Saturday's loss to the Red Wings. It's unclear if he'll stay in the lineup, so keep in mind that Jake Bean ($2,500) works for these purposes, too. After all, we're simply targeting the Red Wings' brutal defensive and penalty-kill schemes at the minimum salary range.
