2024 Fantasy Outlook
Sloan won the Korn Ferry Tour's Utah Championship in early August, but he also closed out his 2023 KFT campaign with three consecutive top-25s to earn a PGA Tour card for the 2024 season. The 36-year-old Canadian ranked top-15 on the KFT in both GIR percentage and par-4 scoring, but he averaged just 300.1 yards off the tee while falling to 96th in par-5 Birdie or Better rate. Sloan played his best golf of last season down the stretch, notching four top-25 finishes in his last seven starts. Sloan ended up a solid top-75 in SG: total and scoring average. He has a very balance game, but one area he can improve upon is with the putter where he ranked outside the top 120 in just about every key putting stat.
Zero top-10s and seven made cuts in 20 events sums up Sloan's 2019-20 season - disappointing. His game doesn't give you many reasons to get excited as he's a short hitter, a below average iron player and great on or around the greens. He could surprise and have a high finish at an alternate field event, but expecting much more than that is being optimistic.
Sloan's first attempt as a regular on the PGA Tour was an absolute disaster. 20 starts, only one top-25 and 13 missed cuts. Obviously he was nowhere near the top-125, which meant it was back to the minors. He clawed his way back this past season however and took full advantage of his second chance. Though he was unable to crack the $1 million mark, he finished comfortably inside the top-125 in FedEx points. The primary reason for that was a runner-up in Puerto Rico, which always breeds caution because of the field. With that in mind, Sloan just hasn't proven enough yet to justify a salary cap selection this season.
The Canadian earned his PGA Tour card via the Web.com Tour Finals for just the second time in his career and will play a full schedule for the first time since the 2014-15 season. Back in his last full year he failed to post a top-10, his best finish a T18 at the 2015 John Deere Classic. Though he's posted 3-4 top-10s each of the last three seasons on the Web.com Tour, he should again have a tough time competing on the PGA Tour. It would be a surprise to see a top-10 from the 31-year-old who has yet to accomplish the feat on the PGA Tour.
The good news: Sloan was a champion on the Web.com Tour in 2014, winning the Nova Scotia Open in a playoff. The bad news: it was his only top-10 finish of the season in 23 starts. He did make 14 cuts, yet had only four top-25s, and he’s better than 31st in only two statistical categories. That lack of strong play across a wide swath of the year (he started his season in February) is troublesome. Keep an eye on him because he does have winning talent – he won in a playoff after all – but it could be a very streaky year as he adjusts.
