Roberto Castro

Castro earned over $2.5 million in the 2015-16 season and made it to East Lake, but since then he has struggled mightily. Last season was his most productive since, but he still couldn't crack $700,000 in 22 starts. His iron play was solid, but his lack of length means he needs to be better than 119th in SG: Putting. Castro offers very little upside in salary cap formats next season.

The 33-year-old played six consecutive seasons on the PGA Tour before losing his card at the end of 2017, having missed the cut in 15 of 25 starts as he fell to 172nd in the FedExCup standings. Castro rebounded with seven top-25s and five top-10s in just 14 starts on the Web.com Tour in 2018, while he ranked fifth in putting average and seventh in GIR percentage.

Entering last season, Castro was an easy salary cap selection as his price was below $200k due to an injury-shortened season in 2015, but no one could have expected the season he produced last year. Though he didn't put a win on his resume last season, he did grab a runner-up and a third-place finish. Castro appears to be trending in the right direction, but with little history to go off of, it's hard to justify him in a salary cap league this year. In draft leagues he's probably a fourth- or fifth-round pick.

Castro made a huge jump from his rookie to his sophomore season, but just as big as the jump up was, his fall last year was just as drastic. Still, he's only a year removed from over $2 million in earnings and a pair of runner-up finishes. Many young players struggle the season following a break-through year, but many of those guys end up coming back stronger than ever, which is what Castro will do this year.

Castro came out of nowhere in 2013 and for those that didn't pay close attention, he's probably still under the radar entering the 2014 season. This is the case of a guy having a career year out of the blue, so taking him this season is a bit of a risk, but if you can get him later in the draft, he could pay off big time. In salary cap leagues he's probably too much of a risk at this price.

The first goal for any PGA TOUR rookie is to secure a card for the following season. Anything after that is icing on the cake. Castro got his cake, but the icing will have to wait until next year. The good news, of course, is Castro will have plenty of opportunity to improve his stock this season. As for his prospects, well, he didn't show a lot last season outside a bunch of made cuts.

Castro is one of two double-qualifiers this year. He qualified as one of the Top-25 on the Nationwide Tour last season, but he also gave Q-School a try to improve his PGA Tour status. Castro has played well on the Nationwide Tour the last couple seasons, but he didn't have the high-end finishes you'd like to see. He'll probably make a good share of cuts this season, but don't expect much on the weekends.
