Pope carded a six-under total through 36 holes to finish in a tie for third place at the Canoe Brook Sectional, and qualify for the 116th US Open.

Pope, a former Web.Com Tour player, advanced to his second consecutive US Open by carding two eagles and three birdies on the South Course at Canoe Brook, to fire a 66 on his final 18. At Chambers Bay for the 2015 US Open, Pope carded rounds of 74-71-77-72 to make the cut and finish in 70th. The 32-year-old has shown that he can compete on tour and has a career best sixth place showing at the Nova Scotia Open.
