Cejka has played on and off on the PGA Tour since 1996 and surprisingly, three of his best seasons during that span have come in the past four years. Cejka picked-up his first PGA Tour win in 2015 and he's played pretty well ever since. The credit can go to his short game, specifically around the greens, where he ranked 4th last season in strokes-gained around the green on the PGA Tour. He is 47 however and that short game can only keep him relevant for so long. A regression is coming and coming soon.
After nearly a decade of sub-$1 million earnings, Cejka returned to form in his mid-40s to post back-to-back seasons more than $1 million in 2014-15 and 2015-16. Last season, however, saw a sharp decline to just one top 10 -- a tie for ninth at The Greenbrier Classic, resulting in a 149th-place finish on the points list. He retained his card, though, by finishing 16th at the Web.com Finals. As Cejka nears age 50, it's hard to picture another season more than $1 million, but the deadly accurate Czech still makes plenty of cuts and has surprised before.
The case of Alex Cejka is certainly a strange one. After topping the $1 million mark during the 2003 and 2004 seasons, his game regressed significantly. In fact, it wasn't until a decade later that Cejka again topped the $1 million mark, but that was due to a win during the 2015 season. It was then easy to write-off Cejka heading into last season because given his track record, his 2015 results could be written-off as a fluke...and then he followed it up with a career-best in earnings last season. Where he goes from here is anyone's guess. As such, he's not worth the risk in salary cap drafts this season. In draft leagues he'll probably go around the 10th-round.
Cejka returns to the PGA Tour with his card for the first time since 2012 and, at 44, is the second oldest of the 50 Web.com Tour graduates. Beginning with a priority ranking of 18th among the 50, he should get in excess of 20 starts, but combining his age and the fact he’s not a long hitter, it’s hard to envision him making an impact, or even retaining his card without returning to the Web.com Tour finals.
Cejka has maintained his PGA TOUR card the last four seasons, but he's yet to break $1 million in that span. It seems as though Cejka is destined to finish between 100 and 125 on the money list each year, which is fine for him, but it doesn't help fantasy golfers. Cejka can provide some value to rotisserie owners, though, as he often ranks among the best on the PGA TOUR at accuracy off the tee.
Cejka has been a regular on the PGA TOUR since 2003, though he hasn't earned more than $1 million in a a season since 2004. Cejka offers little to no value in salary cap leagues and probably doesn't offer much value in standard leagues either, so focus on higher-upside options until they run out.
If not for a couple top-10s late in the season, Cejka would have been back at Q-School. Cejka stats however seem to be ahead of his results, which is usually a good sign. Look for his sound play to produce better results in 2008.
He played in 30 PGA Tour tournaments in 2005 with five top-25 finishes earning $510,082. At age 35, it's up in the air if Cejka can show glimpses of his magic when he finished sixth on the Order of Merit in 1995.
Cejka's first full season on Tour would have to be classified as a success. Most impressive was the way he finished with a runner-up at the B.C. Open and a 4th place finish at the PGA Championship. He also had varied success in the fall. Cejka fell into a lull in the middle of the 2003 season, but it looks like there are some signs that he has got things going into the 2004 season.
