Goggin is in the field for the Web.com Tour's Chitimacha Louisiana Open this week.
ANALYSIS
The Aussie has been trying to make it back to the PGA Tour since losing his card after the 2012 season. He failed to the return via the secondary tour in 2013, when he played in only one PGA event. Oddly enough, in that one he finished T21 in the U.S. Open.

Few players disappointed as much as Goggin last year. After a very solid season in 2008 a lot was expected of Goggin in 2009, and he failed to come through. Sure, he played well enough to comfortably secure his 2009 card, but more was expected of the young Aussie who looked so good in 2008. This happens a lot on the PGA TOUR. Expectations rise and the player simply cannot live up to them. Often a player starts to live up to that potential when the spotlight is elsewhere, like it is this year for Goggin.
Goggin finished runner-up two times and added two third place finishes on his way to nearly $2 million in earnings. Goggin appeared to be getting better during the season last year, expect that trend to continue through 2009.
Goggin can't putt, anyone who looks at his sporadic results can see that. He's either in a rhythm with the putter and finishes well, or he's not feeling it and he misses the cut. There doesn't seem to be any middle ground, but there is hope. Goggin improved his putting from year one on tour to year two. Another improvement in 2008 could result in a dramatic rise in production.
Goggin had trouble putting in 2006. He missed 15 cuts in 26 events, but managed three top-10s. Goggin has never shown the ability to putt well for an entire season. His last stint on the PGA Tour in 2003, he ranked 187th in putting. He seems to have trouble putting on the PGA Tour. Perhaps a second consecutive year on Tour will help his cause.
