Jeff Overton

Overton showed a lot of potential when he burst onto the scene a few years ago, he even played well at the Ryder Cup that year, but he's struggled to regain that form since then. He hasn't fallen off the map, but when you crack the $3 million barrier, people start to expect more than simply retaining your card each year and that's about all Overton has accomplished over the past four seasons. The potential is still there, but as we get further away from that magical season, it's starting to look like more the exception than the rule. In draft leagues he should go around the 10th round.

Overton has plenty of game, we saw that a few years back when he parlayed a solid season into a Ryder Cup spot where he also played well, but his game has gone south since that season. The upside remains, but the question is not when he'll get his game back, but if he'll get his game back. With that said, he's a risky proposition in salary cap leagues. In draft leagues he should go in the 100-110 range.

After a strong finish to the 2010 season and a good showing at he Ryder Cup, Overton's career looked to be taking off, but for some reason he stalled during the 2011 season and only slightly recovered last year. Overton appears to have everything a player needs to succeed on the PGA TOUR, but the post-Ryder Cup slump is a little troubling. That said, his earnings number is set pretty low, making him a good choice in a salary cap league. In draft leagues, he should go in the fifth or sixth round.

If not for Jim Furyk, Overton's collapse last season may have been the biggest letdown of the 2011 season. Overton burst onto the scene in 2010 when he finished runner-up three times and added another two third-place finishes on his way to more than $3 million. From there, he went onto to shine at the Ryder Cup, and it appeared as though Overton was the real deal. That was the last time we saw anything positive from his game, however, as last season he simply did not look like the same player. The sample size is too small, so there's no way to determine which Overton is the real one, the 2010 or 2011 version.

Overton's fine 2010 season was capped by a strong performance at the Ryder Cup. It was a performance that surprised many as Overton was not playing well heading into the matches. His performance at the Ryder Cup could lead to better results in 2011, as he's sure to have added confidence. Overton is quickly becoming known as one of the more emotional players on the PGA TOUR, which seemed to help his cause during the Ryder Cup matches. But a more toned-down approach likely will serve him well as he continues on his journey, and that will likely come with age. There's no reason to expect a decline in Overton's production this season, and he'll likely find the winner's circle at some point. Like many young players on the PGA TOUR, Overton is long off the tee and fairly consistent with the putter, but he struggles with accuracy off the tee.

Overton has finished with around $1 million in winnings each of the past three seasons. When healthy, Overton will enter a nigh number of events, but he has yet to show he can contend for championships with the other tour stars. Over the past four seasons, Overton has played in 107 events but has carded just one top-three finish. Overton has earned a spot on Tour, but he won't do much for your fantasy team unless he starts finishing higher from time-to-time.

Overton made the most of his limited status on the tour last season and ended up being the last of 99 players to top the $1 million dollar mark. Overton only played three events in the first six months of the season, so his numbers could have been even better than they were. With a full schedule ahead of him, look for Overton to improve on his 2007 numbers. Overton underwent an emergency appendectomy at the Mayo Clinic, Scottsdale, AZ on Tuesday. October 21, 2008. He is not expected to play again this season. At #122 on the PGA Tour money list he uis in danger of falling back into the 126-150 conditional category.
