Blackmon was released Friday by the Redskins, Mike Jones of The Washington Post reports.

Blackmon agreed to a two-year deal with the Redskins last offseason after a strong showing with the team in 2015. After a 2016 campaign riddled with injuries, Blackmon became an expendable reserve option in the team's secondary.

After stops in Green Bay, New York (Giants) and Jacksonville, Blackmon came into Washington in 2015 and had a very solid year, setting a career high in tackles with 49, forced fumbles with three, and interceptions with two. Under normal circumstances, the veteran defensive back would be a sleeper IDP candidate for the 2016 season, but unfortunately Washington did not have a normal offseason. The Redskins went out and made possibly the move of the offseason, signing shutdown corner Josh Norman to a five-year contract and jeopardizing Blackmon’s fantasy value. Barring an injury to Bashaud Breeland or Norman, it will be hard to rely on Blackmon for consistent fantasy production in 2016.

Blackmon will open the season as Jacksonville's third cornerback, serving primarily in a nickel role. In 15 games last season, Blackmon recorded 40 tackles, two forced fumbles and an interception.

The Seahawks have a strong group of cornerbacks, leaving Blackmon with little shot of cracking the roster.

Blackmon continued his injury prone ways in 2009. He'll get another chance at returning kicks in 2010, but there's also a good chance that he'll get cut.

As a reserve cornerback, Blackmon won’t generate any interest in IDP leagues … unless of course your league counts return yardage. In his first year as Green Bay’s punt and kick returner, he amassed over 1,500 return yards and scored twice, vaulting him near the top of our kick returner rankings. He is expected to serve in both capacities again this season.

Blackmon looked good while he was on the field in 2008, but that wasn't very often. He's been plagued by foot injuries since the day he was drafted and has spent more time injured than with the team. He still has potential has a defensive back so he'll try again in 2008 to have a healthy season.

Blackmon had his rookie season cut short by a rib injury in week 10, but promises to be a solid backup for the veteran Charles Woodson. Look for Blackmon to be a mainstay in the nickel and dime slots for the Packers heading into 2007.

Blackmon is trying to make the team as a reserve defensive back.
