Vinny Testaverde

Testaverde was released by the Jets in June and promptly signed with Dallas to be reunited with his former coach, Bill Parcells, who coached him during his best season in 1998. Testaverde still throws the ball very well (only 12 percent poor throws), but the game moves too fast for him now (over 13 percent of his throws were defensed last year, almost twice as many as Chad Pennington had). Testaverde is the odds-on favorite to begin the season as the Cowboys’ starter, but only because the competition he faces in Dallas (Quincy Carter, Drew Henson) isn’t particularly formidable.

Projected to be a well-compensated baseball cap and headset-wearing NFL backup, Testaverde was thrust back into the starting role when Chad Pennington suffered a severe wrist injury. Vinny still has some arm strength, but the soon to be 40 signal caller hasn't been particularly effective since 2000. Expect him to be serviceable, but his glory days are over. And as soon as Pennington returns, he'll get his clipboard back.
