Rest-of-Season Projections
Waived by Dallas
The Cowboys waived Olonilua (neck) on Wednesday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Olonilua sustained a neck injury during last preseason's Hall of Fame Game between the Cowboys and Steelers and was ruled out for the remainder of the season after being placed on injured reserve. The injury couldn't have come at a worst time for the fullback, who was expected to garner a sizable role during the preseason and had a good chance of making the roster with a solid showing. Olonilua was poised to compete for a roster spot again this season after declaring his rehab was going well, but the Cowboys will instead stick with Nick Ralston -- who made four appearances in 2021 -- as their top fullback heading into training camp.

2020 Fantasy Outlook
Olonilua split touches with Darius Anderson in his final season at TCU, and both players wound up as UDFAs in Dallas. Olonilua's size (6-3, 240 lbs.), power and burst could make him a goal-line and short-yardage option in the NFL, but his best path to a consistent spot on the gameday roster is as a fullback, if he can translate his physical traits into blocking skills.
