Sammie Coates

Coates ultimately disappointed in 2016, when he was supposed to step in and replace the field-stretching Martavis Bryant. The two profile similarly, so the idea had merit and through Week 5 Coates certainly looked the part, averaging 84.2 yards per game on 22.2 yards per catch. However, the rest of his season was characterized by injuries and a horrendous case of the drops that caused him to tumble down the depth chart. He's behind Antonio Brown, Bryant and Eli Rogers for now, with Juju Smith-Schuster the odds-on favorite to secure the No. 4 job. After undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery in mid-July, Coates' cause has been hindered further. When healthy, he'll compete with Darrius Heyward-Bey, Justin Hunter and Cobi Hamilton, among others, for what will likely be one or two roster spots come final cuts.

With Martavis Bryant suspended for the year, Coates has a chance to slot in as the team's No. 3 receiver. At 6-1, 212, last year's third-round pick has decent size and 4.43 40 speed. He had problems with drops in college, but his reviews in practice as a rookie were glowing, and he had two catches for 61 yards in the Steelers' playoff loss to the Broncos. Veteran Darrius Heyward-Bey is still around, but he's been a bit player for most of his career, so Coates could win the job with a strong camp. While Antonio Brown will dominate the targets, Coates could even push No. 2 Markus Wheaton if he plays well. And when Ben Roethlisberger is healthy, this is one of the league's elite passing offenses.

Enamored by his explosive speed, the Steelers selected Coates in the third round of the draft to compete with Markus Wheaton behind starting receivers Antonio Brown and Martavis Bryant. The knock on Coates is his hands, dropping one of every nine balls thrown his way for Auburn in 2014. On a more positive note, his ability to outrun coverage gives Ben Roethlisberger another deep downfield threat, making Coates a boom-or-bust fantasy player.
