Rest-of-Season Projections
Mundy (hip) was placed on season-ending injured reserve Sunday, CBS 2 Chicago's Zach Zaidman reports.
ANALYSIS
Mundy's hip injury was previously believed to be minor, but it turns out that isn't the case after he experienced a setback last week. A 16-game starter last season, Mundy was expected to provide depth behind Antrel Rolle and Adrian Amos, the projected starters at safety. Brock Vereen now likely becomes the Bears' third safety.

After serving as mostly a reserve for his first five NFL seasons, Mundy finally became a full-time starter in 2014 with the Bears. Though he’s little more than an average talent at safety, Mundy’s numbers benefited from playing on a leaky defense that struggled against both the run and the pass. He went on to finish with a team-leading 103 tackles and four interceptions, numbers that put him squarely on the IDP radar by season's end. In spite of that production, the new regime deemed Mundy an unsuitable starter at strong safety, effectively replacing him by signing Antrel Rolle to a big contract in free agency. Mundy was still in position to claim a role as the Bears' third safety, but any hope of him contributing in 2015 was nullified after he suffered an ankle injury in training camp that resulted in his placement on season-ending injured reserve.
