2021 Fantasy Outlook
Despite going undrafted, Smith earned a depth role for the Panthers over the course of last season. Of course, the development mostly was due to superstar Christian McCaffrey playing just three games, leaving Carolina thin at tailback. In seven games, Smith rushed 41 times for 156 yards and a touchdown and caught nine of 11 targets for 59 more yards. With McCaffrey healthy this year, there will be fewer backfield snaps to go around, and Smith also will have to compete with rookie fourth-rounder Chuba Hubbard and Reggie Bonnafon for positioning on the depth chart.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could join game day roster
Smith is a candidate to be promoted from the Panthers' practice squad in the wake of Christian McCaffrey's hamstring injury, Steve Reed of the Associated Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Rookie Chuba Hubbard and veteran Royce Freeman will be the two main replacements for McCaffrey in Week 4 against Dallas, but Smith -- who helped fill in for McCaffrey last season as an undrafted rookie -- also could rejoin the roster. Coach Matt Rhule wouldn't commit to either Hubbard or Freeman as his starter for Sunday, so it's possible Smith may earn a more substantial role than expected with a good week of practice.
