Priest Holmes: Retires After Neck Injury
Holmes (neck) officially announced his retirement from football Wednesday, the Chiefs' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Holmes spent the last few days meeting with family, friends and medical experts before ultimately deciding that it was in his best interest to retire rather than risk any further injuries to his troublesome neck. Holmes was a dominant rusher during his time in Kansas City, setting numerous franchise records and rushing for 62 touchdowns from 2002-2004, the second-highest three-year span in NFL history. His retirement leaves Kolby Smith as the only healthy running back on the Chiefs' active roster. Kansas City will almost certainly sign at least one other runner, but Smith will likely see a vast majority of the carries Sunday against Oakland and should be picked up in nearly all leagues.
