The Chargers signed Diggs on Saturday and plan to move him to inside linebacker, where they needed some more depth, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Diggs was released by St. Louis this week. The 10-year veteran started 12 games at outside linebacker last year, but the Bolts need him to shore up their inside backer spot, particularly since Stephen Cooper's future is unknown.

After starting 12 games as the club's strongside linebacker in 2010 before a torn pectoral muscle ended his season. He has returned from that injury healthy but must now fight off free agent pick-up Brady Poppinga if he wants his starting spot back.
Diggs will be the club's starting strong-side linebacker in 2010.
Diggs started all 16 games for the Panthers last season, manning the strong-side linebacker spot following Thomas Davis' move to the weak side. The results didn't offer much to fantasy owners -- 54 tackles, one sack and one interception -- but they have been enough to prove that second-year man Dan Connor will have to earn the right to take away his starting gig during training camp.
Diggs' inconsistent play and the emergence of rookie Jon Beason limited the nine-year veteran to just nine starts despite the fact that he played in all 16 games for Carolina last season. He's in line to back up free-agent addition Landon Johnson as the team's weak-side linebacker this season, so he's no longer worthy of IDP consideration in that arrangement.
The addition of first-round pick Jon Beason has bumped Diggs out of a starting job for now, but given middle linebacker Dan Morgan's injury history, he may find his way into the starting lineup as the team's fourth linebacker. Even so, Diggs isn't a great IDP option at this stage of his career.
Diggs is in a battle with Keith Adams for the weak outside linebacker spot. Even if Diggs wins the job, he doesn't offer much value in IPD leagues.
Diggs has been a mainstay at LB for the Packers for a number of years now and has been productive. He suffered a knee injury early in the preseason, but should be able to recover in time for the start of the regular season.
