Shoulder - Labrum
July 25, 2023
Thomas (shoulder) was released by the Ravens from the active/PUP list with an injury settlement Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Thomas suffered a separated shoulder and a labrum injury at some point this offseason, which will require surgery, so Baltimore moved on Tuesday. The wide receiver will likely be forced to miss the entirety of the 2023 campaign and set his sights on a potential return in 2024.

Thomas is one of the in-house options to try to win the Bengals' fourth wide receiver role. The team asked more of him in that role in 2020, but that was also before they drafted Ja'Marr Chase. The truth is that there aren't that many targets to go around for a fourth wide receiver on the team, and Thomas might have to fend off a possible late addition to the roster even to fill that role.
Early on it seemed as if Thomas had developed some chemistry with quarterback Joe Burrow in 2020, but that chemistry never really translated into production on the field, at least in the passing game. In fact, his last catch came in Week 7 against the Browns, and Thomas was even scratched for a couple of games. He'll have to excel on special teams to even make the Week 1 active roster.
Thomas has received praise from head coach Sean McVay this offseason and has proven to be a solid contributor on special teams in the past. He's probably got the inside track on a roster spot heading into the 2019 campaign, but Thomas has also been limited to just 24 games through his first three NFL seasons. He's off the fantasy radar until proven otherwise.
Thomas missed eight games in 2017 due to injuries and a suspension. His work in the other eight wasn't impressive, posting five receptions for 93 yards and zero touchdowns. With Brandin Cooks on board now, his fantasy outlook is bleak.
A PED ban will cost Thomas four games to begin 2017, but he'll still have the entire preseason to impress the new coaching regime. Additionally, he'll be fresh and rested once he returns to the field following his suspension. Unfortunately, the Rams beefed up their receiving corps, so it will probably be difficult for Thomas to make a splash unless injuries elevate him up the depth chart. After all, he underwhelmed with just three receptions for 37 yards during his rookie campaign.
The Rams' sixth-round selection in this year's draft, Thomas profiles at 6-1, 200 pounds and owns a 4.53 40-yard dash time. Although he has the physical traits to succeed at the NFL level, playing time may be hard to come by during his rookie year.
