The Cowboys placed Alexander (undisclosed) on the practice squad injured list Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Alexander was placed on Miami's injured reserve with a groin injury during the preseason before being cut from this list with an injury settlement Sept. 2. The seventh-year cornerback then went unsigned before landing with Dallas' practice squad Dec. 6, and he was elevated once for the Week 16 win over Philadelphia. Alexander will now have to sit out the remainder of the Cowboys' postseason run due to an undisclosed issue.

The Vikings invested a late second-round draft choice in Alexander in 2016, but he did not make a start over his first two NFL campaigns with Xavier Rhodes and Trae Waynes firmly implanted in the No. 1 and No. 2 cornerback roles. 2018 was Alexander's most active season yet, as he made 15 appearances (with six starts), collecting seven tackles for loss, 10 pass deflections and an impressive four sacks from the nickelback position. The 25-year-old defensive back is expected to keep working out of the slot this season, as Minnesota looks to repeat as a top-three pass defense for the fourth straight season.
Alexander mostly served as a nickel and dime package cornerback for the Vikings last season, but he also contributed on special teams. He'll try to win a greater share of the snaps as the slot corner, but faces competition from first-round draft pick Mike Hughes.
Alexander will get a chance to win the starting nickel corner job after the departure of Captain Munnerlyn in free agency. Alexander played just 68 snaps last season, but head coach Mike Zimmer has expressed confidence in the 2016 second-round draft pick.
Drafted 54th overall in the 2016 NFL Draft out of Clemson, Alexander presents the Vikings secondary with another young and talented cornerback to blend in with veterans Terence Newman and Captain Munnerlyn. The crew also includes former first-round pick and projected starter Xavier Rhodes, along with Trae Waynes who enters his second year in the league and figures to compete with Alexander for playing time. Alexander has the talent and charisma to battle for defensive snaps right out of the gate, but the team's secondary is a bit crowded at this point so his IDP value could be limited.

Alexander was signed to the Cowboys' practice squad Tuesday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Alexander signed with the Dolphins midway through training camp but suffered a groin injury and was released with an injury settlement. He's now latched onto a new opportunity in Dallas. The Cowboys' secondary has been depleted by injuries, which means Alexander could see snaps prior to the close of the regular season. Across 16 games with the Vikings in 2021, he posted 51 tackles with five passes defended.
