2024 Fantasy Outlook
Gallup signed a one-year contract with the Raiders this offseason but then decided to retire in late July. He was never the same player after suffering an ACL tear in 2021, unable to regain the form that saw him top 1,000 yards in 2020. Read Past Outlooks

Retirement made official
The Raiders placed Gallup on the reserve/retired list Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Gallup surprisingly retired as training camp kicked off for Las Vegas, after having signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the team during the offseason. The 28-year-old wideout played all six seasons of his NFL career in a Cowboys uniform, and injuries seemed to derail him after a promising 66-1,107-6 receiving line in Year 2. Former teammate Dak Prescott praised Gallup following his retirement, per Patrik Walker of the Cowboys' official site, saying "he was huge for my career."

Gallup averaged 79.1 yards in 14 games in 2019, his second pro season, but otherwise has never topped five touchdowns or 52.7 YPG. Injuries have been a huge factor, with QB Dak Prescott missing 11 games in 2020 and Gallup tearing his ACL in the middle of the 2021. The Cowboys hoped he'd come back strong after they traded Amari Cooper last offseason, but Gallup missed the first three games and wasn't a full-time player until Week 8. Even then, he averaged only 33.8 yards on 5.7 targets per game thereafter, finishing with 131 fewer yards than Noah Brown on the same number of total targets (74). Brown is gone now, replaced by a bigger volume threat, Brandin Cooks, who also figures to get some of the two-wide snaps that went to Gallup last year. Furthermore, Mike McCarthy's switch from Kellen Moore to Brian Schottenheimer at offensive coordinator hints at a desire to run the ball more. The positive is that Gallup is in his prime at 27 and should regain some of his explosion with the help of a normal offseason routine that doesn't include rehab from major surgery.

Retirement a surprise to Raiders
Gallup's retirement decision Tuesday caught general manager Tom Telesco by surprise, Grant Gordon of NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Telesco said he didn't see the offseason addition's retirement "coming at all." Gallup had signed a one-year, $3 million deal with the Raiders this offseason after playing the first six seasons of his career with Dallas. Although he's battled injuries in the past, Gallup is reportedly healthy and financially secure according to one-time Cowboys teammate Dak Prescott, who spoke with the receiver earlier in the offseason about his retirement plans.
