Jon Bostic

A 2013 second-round pick, Bostic never developed as expected in Chicago but has enjoyed a solid second act as a journeyman injury replacement. He ended up starting all 16 games in Washington last year after Reuben Foster suffered an ACL tear in spring practices, ultimately finishing tied for second on the team with 105 tackles. Bostic should have a role once again in 2020, but it could be a part-time job after Washington signed veteran linebacker Thomas Davis in the offseason. With Davis, Bostic, Foster, Cole Holcomb and Shaun Dion Hamilton all competing for snaps, there's no clear IDP choice among the Washington LB corps.

Washington signed Bostic in May after Reuben Foster suffered a season-ending knee injury at OTAs. The 2013 second-round pick is coming off a season in which he started 14 of 16 games for Pittsburgh, with 73 tackles (46 solo) and 2.5 sacks on 560 defensive snaps. Bostic's per-snap production would translate to IDP value in a three-down role, but it isn't clear if he'll get that type of playing time in Washington. The team also has Shaun Dion Hamilton, Cole Holcomb and Josh Harvey-Clemons competing for snaps at inside linebacker.

Coming off his best season with 97 tackles, Bostic finds himself playing with his fourth franchise since joining the league in 2013. He is prone to injury, missing 26 games in his career, including all of 2016. He figures to compete for a starting inside linebacker spot but, even if he earns the job and remains healthy, he hasn’t shown enough to warrant IDP fantasy consideration.

Bostic missed last season when he suffered a fractured left foot in training camp. He'll compete for a starting inside linebacker role this summer.

The Bears invested a second-round pick in Bostic in 2013 due to the speed and bone-jarring hitting he delivered during his college career at Florida, but he’s been slower to develop than the organization anticipated. Injuries the past two seasons to D.J. Williams and Lance Briggs paved the way for Bostic to log plenty of snaps, and while he upped his stop count to 84 across 13 games in 2014, he was still maddeningly inconsistent. Bostic has primarily struggled in recognizing plays and finishing off tackles, attributes that often led opposing running backs to feast on the Bears. With second-year man Christian Jones coming on strong down the stretch last season and spending the offseason program on the first team while Bostic recovered from a back injury, it’s quite possible that Bostic will have to settle for a backup role to open the upcoming campaign.

As a rookie, Bostic stepped in as the starting middle linebacker after the team's first six games, following a season-ending injury to D.J. Williams. He filled in competently for the most part, logging 58 total tackles, two sacks and an interception on the campaign. With Williams back healthy in training camp, Bostic will be given the chance to compete for a starting job in the middle, but he'll have a more realistic job at winning a job on the other outside spot opposite Lance Briggs. Fellow second-year linebacker Khaseem Greene and converted defensive lineman Shea McClellin would represent his most challenging competition on the strong side.

A second-round pick out of Florida in this year's draft, Bostic will be forced to settle for a reserve role with veteran imports D.J. Williams and James Anderson slated to start alongside Lance Briggs. He could potentially emerge later in the season as a starter if he shows a quick development curve.
