2024 Fantasy Outlook
McLaughlin came in as an undrafted rookie last year and immediately proved to be a good bullpen running back, providing the Broncos with explosiveness as a runner (5.4 YPC) and reliability as a pass catcher (31 receptions on 36 targets). The problem is that the former Youngstown State standout is undersized (5-7, 187) and doesn't quite have the type of elite speed that might allow him to get away with it and take on large workloads anyway. He's more likely to tantalize with a few big plays on something like a 15-to-20-snap workload, unlikely to scale much higher than that. McLaughlin does at least have a chance to claim more of the passing-down work this year, following Samaje Perine's release in late August. Read Past Outlooks
RANKS
Non-factor against Bills
McLaughlin rushed twice for minus-two yards and secured his lone target for zero yards in Sunday's 31-7 wild-card loss to the Bills.
ANALYSIS
McLaughlin was not a big part of the game plan Sunday, playing just eight of the Broncos 42 offensive snaps in the contest behind teammate Javonte Williams (31) and ahead of Tyler Badie (3). The 24-year-old running back finished the 2024 regular season with 113 carries for 496 yards and one touchdown, a 24-76-2 receiving line on 27 targets and one lost fumble across 16 games. McLaughlin's carry total and rushing yards set career highs in both categories, as he saw his involvement in the ground game increase in his sophomore season. The Youngstown State product will enter his third season in 2025 with the opportunity to take a step forward in the offense. Williams will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, so his possible departure could open things up for McLaughlin to step into a larger role in Denver's backfield. With that said, he'll likely continue to face competition from Audric Estime, Badie and any other running back who could be added through free agency or the draft.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
McLaughlin, an undrafted rookie from Youngstown State, impressed during training camp with both his play and his dedication to learning the offense. McLaughlin has a solid chance to move up the depth chart behind Javonte Williams and Samaje Perine. It's important to note McLaughlin was also used as a returner, running a kickoff back 44 yards in the contest. The Youngstown State product could therefore also carve out a role on special teams, helping him to secure a roster spot ahead of the 2023 campaign

Appears on track for return
McLaughlin, who missed the Broncos' Week 16 loss to the Chargers due to a quadriceps injury, practiced fully Wednesday and appears on track to play Saturday against the Bengals, Aric DiLalla of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The speedy running back opened the practice week with a limited session Tuesday, but his ability to upgrade to full participation Wednesday seems to bode well for a Week 17 return. McLaughlin was impressive as the lead back in Week 13 against the Browns before Denver's Week 14 bye, rushing 14 times for 84 yards. If he's at full health Saturday, he'll likely be part of a timeshare out of the backfield that includes Javonte Williams and Audric Estime.
