Glover Quin

If nothing else, Quin is dependable: the former fourth-round pick hasn't missed a game in seven seasons and was the only defender in the NFL to play all of his team's defensive snaps in 2016. Even at 31 years old, he's still producing, too. During his past three seasons in Detroit, Quin averaged 69 tackles, seven defended passes and over four picks per campaign. The Lions probably didn't expect him to keep him around for the final years of his five-year, $23.5 million contract when they signed him in 2013 -- they paid Quin no greater than $1 million in each of his first three seasons but were on the hook to pay him $4 million in each of the final two years -- but they can't be disappointed with his production to this point and will presumably be happy to let him play out the final year of his deal in 2017.

Quin is a player you would draft solely for the interception production. He's a near lock to post one of the lowest tackle totals among starting safeties, as he has just 140 tackles over the last two years and has never exceeded 85 tackles in his seven NFL seasons. He's one of the league's top coverage safeties, though, and NFL quarterbacks can't seem to avoid him as much as they'd like to. With 11 interceptions in the last two years, including seven in 2015, Quin is worth considering as a DB3 who can hopefully give you some interceptions while subbing for your starters.

Last season's league leader in interceptions wasn't Richard Sherman or Patrick Peterson or Darrelle Revis, it was Quin. Quin didn't necessarily come out of nowhere last season, but his seven interceptions in 2014 were an increase over his previous two seasons, where he had five total. Last season was Quin's first working with new defensive coordinator Teryl Austin, who brought elements of the Ravens' aggressive scheme with him after coaching there for three years. It'll be hard for Quin to match 2014's production, but expect Austin to continue to put him in positions to succeed.

Quin will start at safety for the Lions this season, though most of the production from Detroit's defense comes from its front seven.

Quin is a former cornerback who was moved to safety in recent years in Houston, and he'll play the latter position after signing with the Lions in 2013. Quin averaged 82 tackles per year over the last three seasons but should push for the 90-tackle range in Detroit, as the team's extremely pass-happy offense dares opponents to shoot it out, leading to extra tackle opportunities against opposing receivers. Safeties Erik Coleman, Ricardo Silva, John Wendling, Don Carey and Amari Spievey combined for 176 tackles last year, and Quin is expected to single-handedly replace most of that platoon.

The team's starting strong safety, Quin likely will post around 80 tackles and a couple interceptions this season, based on his numbers in previous seasons with the Texans.

Although Houston’s coaches have singled out Quin as the team’s best cornerback, he still is reportedly facing a possible move to free safety. Such a move would be questionable on Houston’s part, but it’d be a nice boost to Quin’s fantasy value. He finished last year with 85 tackles (71 solo) playing cornerback, so it’s a distinct possibility that he’d make a run for triple-digits if he moves to safety in Houston’s porous secondary. Teams throw often and effectively against Houston, so there will be tackles to be had no matter where Quin lines up.

Quin is one of a number of cornerbacks in camp, looking to get into the regular rotation. He was impressive during organized team activities, when he was given a lot of snaps, while versatile enough to play safety. At best, he'll be Houston's nickel defensive back, supporting starters Dunta Robinson and Jacques Reeves or Fred Bennett.
