After trading outside linebacker Brian Burnes to the Giants in March, the Panthers made it a priority to fortify a seemingly weak room of pass rushers by adding both Wonnum and Jadeveon Clowney in free agency. Wonnum is coming off the most productive season of his young career, tallying 62 tackles, including 8.0 sacks, 38 pressures and seven passes defended in 15 games with the Vikings. Head coach Dave Canales said Monday that Wonnum (quadricep) still has to complete the "last stage" of his recovery before returning to practice, Sheena Quick of Fox Sports Radio 1340 reports.

After starting 16 games in 2021, Wonnum saw his role decreased for the Vikings last season. He totaled 38 tackles, including four sacks, while playing 16 games and starting just one. It looks like he will again play a rotational on the edge in 2023.
