Bryant was released by Cleveland on Tuesday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Bryant's release comes as quite the surprise, as he was expected to start for the Browns in 2017. The veteran missed nearly all of last season with a torn pectoral muscle but looked ready to go for the coming campaign. His release likely opens the door for Trevon Coley to join the starting line.

Bryant is projected to be a starting defensive end for the Browns in 2015, and will look to build upon a career-best 49 combined tackles tallied up last season. The 29-year-old has collected 3.5 or more sacks in each of the last four seasons, and that consistency should give him some utility in deeper IDP formats.
Bryant announced this offseason that he's been medically cleared to resume football activities following a December procedure to correct an irregular heartbeat. Since then, the 28-year-old has already been able to participate in Browns' voluntary minicamp, and expects to be ready for the beginning of the 2014 season. The 6-foot-6, 310 pound Bryant has 15 sacks and 155 combined tackles over five NFL seasons, and projects to be a starter on Cleveland's defensive line. He'll be used primarily as a run-stopper in Jim O'Neil's 3-4 defensive scheme.
Bryant is a big, powerful defender who has been fairly productive of late. He notched nine sacks and 71 tackles in his last two seasons in Oakland, but his role in Cleveland as a run-stuffing 3-4 end will limit his fantasy IDP potential.
Bryant has appeared in all but one game for the Raiders over the last three seasons. He figures to be part of the Raiders' defensive line rotation again in 2013.
Bryant will be a reserve defensive tackle for the Raiders.
