2024 Fantasy Outlook
The son of Jerry Rice, Brenden Rice never really broke out in any of his four collegiate seasons, but in his final two years with Lincoln Riley at USC the pass catcher at least cobbled together 1,402 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns, 12 of which came in his senior campaign. Rice is a crisp route runner much like his father, but Brenden plays a more physical game and proved to be a solid pass catcher especially in jump-ball situations. Given the Chargers' inexperienced receiver depth chart, it'll be a bit surprising if Rice doesn't make the final roster, but he'll have to show out during training camp to guarantee playing time at the onset of his rookie campaign. RANKS
Not expected to return this week
Rice (shoulder) isn't likely to have his practice window opened this week, per Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh, Alex Insdorf of BoltBeat.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Rice has missed the required four games since landing on injured reserve Nov. 2, but it doesn't appear he's ready to return to practice. The rookie wideout got into only three games prior to suffering the shoulder injury and played just three offensive snaps along with 10 snaps on special teams.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
HOF dad hot about draft drop
Rice, who wasn't taken until the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft after receiving a mid-round projection, is nevertheless excited to join the receiver-needy Chargers and is being fueled by his father Jerry's frustration with where he was selected, Khris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
USC's Brenden Rice unsurprisingly has a very involved dad in Hall of Famer Jerry Rice, who was incensed by his son's fall in the draft. Brenden noted his father told him "we're going to take this to a different level" after the former was the 32nd out of 35 receivers selected in the 2024 NFL Draft. Disappointment about where he was picked aside, Brenden insists he's focused on the positives of joining a team where he'll have Justin Herbert as his quarterback and a chance to make an immediate impact due to the team's dearth of wide receiver depth and explosive players.
