The Vikings released Benwikere on Tuesday, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Benwikere landed in Minnesota earlier in August and was ultimately unable to secure a spot on the roster. The journeyman cornerback will look to latch on elsewhere in the league.

In 13 games last year, Benwikere registered 59 tackles, nine passes defended and one sack, but a lower leg fracture ended his second season in December. Prior to then, Benwikere proved to be an excellent nickel cornerback, and also showed the ability to play outside in wake of injuries to his teammates. While Benwikere should be healthy by Week 1 of this season, the Panthers' two starting jobs could very well be filled by rookie draft picks, which would leave him to continue in an inside role that may feature slightly fewer snaps.
