Breeland was signed to the Cardinals' practice squad Tuesday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The cornerback was waived by the Vikings on Dec. 18 prior to testing positive for COVID-19 Dec. 28 after working out for the Cardinals, delaying the signing for over a week. Breeland will provide a veteran presence in the Cardinals' secondary as they gear up for a playoff run. In 13 games with the Vikings in 2021, he made 63 tackles, deflected five passes, intercepted two balls and forced two fumbles.

Breeland gave up a 90.0 NFL passer rating in coverage last year, according to Pro Football Focus, but ads a needed veteran presence to a young secondary that struggled last season. He's competing with Mackensie Alexander and Cameron Dantzler for a starting role, but all three should get significant snaps.
One of the biggest benefactors from last offseason's addition of Josh Norman, Breeland recorded 73 tackles, 11 pass defensed, three interceptions and one sack in 14 games playing across from the Pro Bowler. That came despite an ankle issue sidelining the 25-year-old for two games early in the season and lingering throughout the rest of the year. If he can come into 2017 with full health, however, the cornerback could be in line for a career season.
It's normally risky to bank on reliable year-to-year IDP production from a cornerback, but it appears that everything is in place for Breeland to fill up the box score this year. His tackle total from last year (81) is good for 15 games, but there's reason to expect his numbers to improve across the board. The signing of Josh Norman is perhaps the main reason. Good as he was last year, quarterbacks will almost certainly prefer to throw at Breeland rather than Norman, and Breeland's 30 passes defended the last two years imply he's due for a flurry of interceptions.
Was inconsistent during his rookie season but saw extended game action after injuries in the secondary. He improved as the season went along and recorded 66 tackles, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles. He will compete with David Amerson for a starting cornerback role.
Fourth round draft pick in 2014. He will compete for a slot/backup cornerback role.
