2024 Fantasy Outlook
Even relative to the expectations of being the No. 2 overall pick, Hutchinson has been plenty productive through his first two seasons. He's combined to produce 21 sacks and 23 tackles for loss in 34 games. While his surface stats were nearly identical from 2022 to 2023, both his improved playmaking and peripheral stats make clear that we should expect more from Hutchinson. Most notably, he doubled his quarterback hits (15 to 33), increased his tackles for loss from nine to 14 and also forced three fumbles from his rookie to sophomore campaigns. His ability to get to the quarterback is particularly positive and illustrates his ability to produce at the levels of elite pass rushers around the league, as only T.J. Watt (36) and Nick Bosa (35) logged more quarterback hits than Hutchinson (33). The final piece to the puzzle is the rest of the defensive line supporting him, as Alim McNeil and new addition DJ Reader will occupy offensive lineman and keep double teams away from Hutchinson. Year three has all the makings of a breakout. Read Past Outlooks

Return for Super Bowl not ruled out
DEDetroit Lions
Lower Leg
October 19, 2024
Hutchinson (tibia/fibula) may have a realistic chance to return for a potential Super Bowl appearance if the Lions are able to advance that far during the postseason, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Hutchinson suffered a broken left tibia and fibula in Detroit's Week 6 win over the Cowobys and underwent immediate surgery last Sunday in Dallas. He was given a recovery timeline of 4-to-6 months, with the shorter end of that timeframe butting up right against the Super Bowl, which is scheduled for Feb. 9. A return for the Super Bowl would still be optimistic, but wilder things have happened, and Hutchinson has youth on his side. Hutchinson was placed on injured reserve Tuesday and is fully expected to miss the remainder of the regular season.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2022
Hutchinson is primed for another productive season after leading the Lions with 9.5 sacks as a rookie. There doesn't seem to be any reason he can't keep logging close to 90 percent of the team's defensive snaps, and he figures to only gain responsibilities in run defense entering his second year. While the Michigan product likely won't be getting three interceptions in a season again, double-digit sacks and an improvement upon the 52 tackles Hutchinson logged last year are fully in the cards.
Expectations are high for the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 Draft. Hutchinson not only should step into a starting role in Detroit's rising defense, he could be a fantasy factor from the jump given his abilities to rack up tackles and rush the passer. With Charles Harris and Romeo Okwara on the other side of him while Michael Brockers and 2021 third-round nose tackle Alim McNeill clog up the middle, defenses won't be able to devote too much attention to him, either. However, any possible struggles wouldn't be the first time that a top prospect has in the acclimation process to the pro game. This should be accounted for in his IDP profile in addition to his sky-high upside.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Another big game on horizon?
DEDetroit Lions
September 21, 2024
Hutchinson, who tallied 4.5 sacks against the Buccaneers in Week 2, could be in line for another big performance against the Cardinals in Week 3 due to Arizona right tackle Kelvin Beachum in jeopardy of not playing due to a hamstring injury, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Beachum went from a limited participant in Thursday's practice to a DNP on Friday, which puts his status for Sunday's game in the air. Jackson Barton, a 2019 seventh-round pick, would be the top candidate to start at right tackle if Beachum can't play, which would create an exploitable matchup that Hutchinson and the Lions' defense can take advantage of. Hutchinson's 4.5 sacks in Week 2 against the Buccaneers were second-most in Lions' franchise history behind Bill Gay's 5.5 sacks in 1983.
