Adewale Ogunleye

Ogunleye turns 31 in August, but he proved in 2007 that he isn’t over the hill. He totaled nine sacks, six forced fumbles and 58 tackles, just four shy of his career high. While he likely won't approach the 15 sacks that he accumulated in 2003, Ogunleye still has a lot to offer. He's consistent – nine or more sacks in four of his last six seasons, the exceptions coming when he played less than 16 games – and he has a solid supporting cast. Ogunleye also forced six fumbles in 2007, a nice bonus if your league counts that stat. His biggest strength is his ability to use his speed as an edge pass rusher and get to the quarterback.

Ogunleye, who saw his sack total drop to just 6.5 last year, has not been the defensive force the Bears hoped he'd be when they acquired him prior to 2004. The former Hoosier has yet to play a full season in three years with Chicago and has not come close to equaling the 15 sacks he posted for the Dolphins in '03. Ogunleye will continue to start at left defensive end and see a lot of playing time, so decent numbers can be expected. Just don't anticipate him recording an eye-popping amount of sacks this year.

Unless he’s hurt, Ogunleye does enough to be worth a roster spot, and can push the upper reaches of the linemen standings when he’s really on. Since he became a starter, four seasons ago in Miami, Ogunleye has set the bar for himself with solo tackles in the upper 30s or low 40s, and double-digit sacks, leading the AFC with 15 in 2003. The one down year, 2004, came as a result of a debilitating lower leg muscle injury that just never allowed him to use the burst on which his game relies. It was also his first season away from Jason Taylor, which meant far more frequent double teams. He put both issues to rest last year, showing he can play through sprained ankles and still be productive. The one game he missed was a meaningless Week 17 tilt for a playoff-bound Bears squad.

Ogunleye never really got to 100 percent last year. He held out of training camp with Miami until he was traded to Chicago and thus started the year not quite up to speed. A few weeks in, he strained muscles near his ankle in his lower leg, missed two games and played through pain most of the rest of the season. Ogunleye also missed the final two games of the year to have surgery, but is expected to be healthy for training camp this year. Let other owners forget about him on draft day – you shouldn’t.

Many a sportswriter had to learn how to spell this guy's name as he led the AFC in sacks last year with 15. He's demanding more money than he's currently tendered for, so he may be traded or—eek!—hold out, so be sure to know his status on draft day. He should hit the low teens in sacks and mid-40s in solo tackles again if he plays a full season in Miami, and a little less on a new team without a strong end complement like Jason Taylor.
