2024 Fantasy Outlook
The Patriots made Maye the third overall pick in this year’s draft, hoping he’s the QB of the future that Mac Jones failed to be. Jones, the 15th overall pick in 2021, was traded in March to Jacksonville. Maye will compete for the starting job with free-agent acquisition Jacoby Brissett. Even if Maye isn’t the Week 1 starter, he likely will be under center at some point. At 6-4, 223, Maye has prototypical size, with a strong and talented arm that can both attack defenses deep and slip balls into tight windows. Scouts praised his vision and anticipation, and he’s an athletic dual threat who rushed for 1,147 yards and 16 TDs his last two years at North Carolina. Maye is a bit of a gunslinger, prone to ill-advised passes, and inconsistent mechanics and poor footwork at times hurt his accuracy, especially on routine short throws. But the Patriots have time to develop that while Brissett handles QB duty. The bigger issue is a lack of playmakers. The WR depth chart is topped by Kendrick Borne, who is coming off an ACL injury, and Demario Douglas, a 2023 sixth-round pick who failed to score last season. Second-round rookie Ja’Lynn Polk might already be the best wide receiver, and tight end Hunter Henry could be the No. 2 target. Maye, however, at least gives the Patriots hope in the post-Belichick era. Read Past Outlooks

Quick exit in Week 18 win
Maye (hand) failed to complete his only pass attempt before giving way to Joe Milton in Sunday's 23-16 win over the Bills.
ANALYSIS
The rookie QB was bothered by an issue with his throwing hand during practice this week, and with nothing on the line in Week 18, the Patriots pulled Maye after one series rather than risk further injury. The third overall pick in the 2024 Draft finishes his first NFL campaign with a 66.6 percent completion rate, 2,276 passing yards and a 15:10 TD:INT in 13 appearances, and improving his ball security as well as his production will be the focus for 2025. Maye will also be learning a new offense, as head coach Jerod Mayo and offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt were let go immediately after Sunday's game.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could sit for finale
Maye and the Patriots' other starters could sit out a Week 18 meeting with the Bills, Michael Giardi of BostonSportsJournal.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Neither team has much to play for in their regular-season finale, as Buffalo has already locked up the No. 2 seed in the AFC, while a loss would ensure New England has the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Maye did leave a Week 17 loss to the Chargers briefly to get checked for a concussion, so protecting the team's young franchise QB could be prudent. If Maye does get rested, 2024 sixth-round pick Joe Milton could get his first career NFL start.
