David Amerson

Once a second-round pick by the Redskins in 2013, Amerson struggled mightily in coverage during his first two seasons and was quickly nixed from Washington just one week into 2015. The Raiders noticed, and were quick to react by claiming him off waivers and almost immediately slotting him into their secondary. In an extreme turnaround, Amerson, who allowed an 140.2 QBR when his man was targeted in 2014 (with the Redskins), shut down opposing quarterbacks in 2015 (with the Raiders) to the tune of a 62.7 QBR when his man was targeted, no matter that he was targeted 104 total times, or, sixth-most among all cornerbacks. Ultimately, he finished 2015 with 60 tackles, 26 passes defensed, four interceptions, one interception returned for a touchdown, and one forced fumble. With the entire Raiders defense on the rise, similar numbers aren't out of the realm of possibility for Amerson in 2016.

Amerson enters his third year in the league and will start opposite Chris Culliver. He failed to record an interception in 2014 after registering two in his rookie season.

The 2013 2nd round pick played all 16 games in his rookie season recording 48 tackles, two interceptions and a forced fumble. He has good size and speed and is expected to win a starting cornerback spot. Expect improved numbers across the board in 2014.

Amerson will be the team's third cornerback on the depth chart and will mostly see action on passing downs.
