Given he makes the final roster, Davis will provide depth at tight end behind Jeff Cumberland and Jace Amaro. Davis was active for six games last season with the Lions and did not catch a pass on three targets.

It’s easy to write off Davis after only 18 catches for 206 yards last season as Chicago’s starting tight end, but his problems stemmed from Mike Martz’s tight-end-unfriendly system and not having a full season with Jay Cutler at quarterback. With Martz out of town and Cutler healthy, the 26-year-old should see a bigger role in the offense. Davis displayed his upside with five touchdowns even though he wasn’t a major part of the passing game. That could change this season. The addition of Brandon Marshall could help Davis get open underneath or in the middle of the field, and even though the Bears drafted tight end Evan Rodriguez, Davis is expected to be the top tight-end target rather than the small (6-1, 240) rookie. Keep an eye on Davis’ progress in training camp and that of Chicago’s new offensive system, which might incorporate the tight end much more than Martz did.

With the departure of Greg Olsen, Davis now has the chance to become the Bears' starting tight end. Though in Mike Martz's tight end unfriendly scheme there isn't much fantasy excitement coming his way. Replicating Olsen's 41 catches for 404 yards in 2010 would be difficult to say the least.

Davis, a fifth-round pick in the 2008 draft, won't have a fantasy impact this season as Chicago's third- or fourth-string tight end. Davis caught nine passes for 75 yards and two touchdowns in 2009, and is unlikely to improve much on those numbers this year.

Davis is a talented pass catching tight end, but he's simply stuck on the wrong team with Greg Olsen and Desmond Clark in front of him. He'll compete with Michael Gaines for the third tight end job.

The Bears selected Davis in the fifth round of the draft and he'll provide nothing more than depth behind Greg Olson and Desmond Clark this season.
