Just two touches in loss
Shepard brought in one of three targets for seven yards and rushed once for three yards in the Buccaneers' 23-20 loss to the 49ers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Shepard was in on 44 snaps (72 percent) and couldn't do much with them, despite Mike Evans (hamstring) remaining out and Jalen McMillan active but not playing any snaps, potentially due to his own hamstring issue. The veteran appears unable to serve as anything more than a tertiary option at this later stage of his career, as Shepard has just a 16-166-1 receiving line and 7-55-0 rushing tally over eight games.

Shepard recovered from a torn Achilles suffered during the 2021 season in time to play in Week 1 last year, but his campaign ended with another devastating injury when he tore his ACL in Week 3. The Giants liked his production enough, when healthy, to re-sign him during the offseason, but the "when healthy" qualification looms large because the wideout has played in more than 12 games just once since he was a rookie in 2016. There's no guarantee that Shepard will be ready to go by the opener of the coming season, and even if he is, his role is uncertain. New York is loaded with slot receivers and may prefer to give youngsters Wan'Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt more run than the 30-year-old Shepard.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Should see heavy snap count Monday
Shepard could be the Bucs' de facto No. 2 wide receiver for Monday's game against the Ravens if Mike Evans operates on a snap count while playing through a hamstring injury, Michael Baca of NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Evans wasn't able to practice Thursday and Friday, though he doesn't carry an injury designation after logging a limited session Saturday. Shepard played a season-high 54 offensive snaps in the Bucs' Week 6 win over the Saints, during which he caught three passes on four targets for 23 yards. In that game, Evans played just 57 percent of the Bucs' offensive snaps, and if he's on a snap count against Baltimore, Shepard should see heavy work in two-wideout sets alongside Chris Godwin.
