Janis had his contract terminated by the Browns on Friday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Janis was competing for a depth receiver role with the Browns, but his biggest strength was considered to be his special teams acumen. He spent his first four seasons with the Packers, but he was hoping for a new home in Cleveland. However, he has been sent packing once again and will be forced to find a new opportunity. His aforementioned special teams production will presumably elicit some calls from other teams.

Janis has achieved cult hero status in Green Bay, but he has not reached the same level in the fantasy realm after three seasons in the league. His experience could help him in the competition for a roster spot this fall, but it could also hurt him, as several other younger receivers are also in the mix. Even if Janis does make the cut, his main area of contribution would be special teams.
Even with their receiving corps in shambles, the Packers refused to target the big, fast, athletic Janis – at least until the playoffs. In an overtime loss in the divisional round, Janis caught seven of 11 targets for 145 yards and two touchdowns, most of which came on two Hail Mary's. At 6-3, 219, with 4.42 40 speed, Janis is a physical freak, but he's raw as a route runner and never faced big-time competition in college. With Jordy Nelson back, Janis' skillset isn't as desperately needed as it was last year, but after his performance in the playoffs, there's a chance the team will give him an extended look. At best he'd be the No. 3 option after Nelson and Randall Cobb, and tight ends Jared Cook and Richard Rodgers will be in the mix as well.
Janis played at a small school in college and lasted until the seventh round of last year's draft, but that did not stop him from spending the entire season on the Packers' roster. The team is a big fan of his athleticism, and though he suited up for just three games as a rookie, he showed enough to remain in the conversation moving forward. Any Packers receiver outside of their Big 3 will struggle to make a fantasy impact this season, but a strong preseason could help Janis open the season fourth on the wide receiver depth chart.
There may have been no better landing spot for a big, athletic small-school receiver than Green Bay, as Janis will be given all the time he needs to learn the ropes under the tutelage of Jordy Nelson and Aaron Rodgers. Don't look for an immediate impact, but he could become a force for the Packers a year or two down the road.
