Brandon Marshall

Marshall remains Denver's most complete inside linebacker, wrapping up 2017 with his third 100-tackle season in four years and leading the team's linebacking corps with four passes defensed. He's recently stated that he plans to play this season under 230 pounds in order to keep light and stay with opposing tight ends in coverage. He'll also need to remain fast to keep in front of a pair of newcomers. After years of not investing draft capital on inside linebacker, Denver spent two Day 3 picks on the position this season. It would be cost prohibitive to cut Marshall prior to this season, but that dead-cap cost drops to $4 million in 2019 and $2 million in 2020.

It's anyone's guess what the exact look of the Denver defense will be now that Wade Phillips is in Los Angeles, but Marshall should in any case remain the Broncos' best inside linebacker. That should ensure a high snap count, and a high enough snap count in any scheme should ensure a triple-digit tackle output over 16 games. There's otherwise nothing remarkable in Marshall's profile -- his career high for tackles is 112 and he's never exceeded two sacks or one interception in a season -- but a sound tackle floor should carry his IDP utility.

Particularly with Trevathan in Chicago, Marshall is Wade Phillips' most trusted inside linebacker in Denver, which almost by default grants him LB2 status in IDP formats. In his two years as a starter in Denver, Marshall has 214 tackles to his credit despite logging a modest total of 1,784 defensive snaps in that span. He doesn't appear to have major upside, but with Trevathan gone Marshall could see his first 1,000-snap season for Denver, in which case he should log a career-high in tackles. Marshall's offseason finger surgery is not a serious concern.

With Danny Trevathan (knee) out for most of the year, Marshall stepped up as Denver's top inside linebacker in 2014, surpassing triple-digit tackles in just 870 snaps. With Denver switching to a 3-4 this year, Marshall and Trevathan will both be on the field as inside linebackers in Wade Phillips' defense. Phillips has a history of dialing up blitzes for his inside linebackers, making Marshall a good bet to increase his two sacks from last year. The only concern is his recovery from a March foot surgery, but he is expected to be ready for training camp.

Marshall will primarily provide depth at linebacker this year while playing behind Von Miller, who is still recovering from a torn ACL. Miller is expected to be back by Week 1, but if he's not fully healthy, Marshall could grab some extra snaps early in the season.

Marshall will add depth at the linebacker spot and is also likely to contribute on special teams. He's reportedly made some strides this offseason, so there is a chance he could even challenge Geno Hayes for a starting spot.
