Allen struggled last year before succumbing to a season-ending thumb injury. He will compete for a starting role with second round draft pick Senquez Golson opposite William Gay.
A solid 2013 season might have propelled Allen, who is in the final year of his contract, ahead of William Gay on the depth chart.
Allen seems to have a nose for the football, recording two interceptions and one fumble recovery, while leading the Steelers' defense in 2012 with three forced fumbles. His performance earns him the second starting corner position in 2013.
Prior to the 2011 NFL Draft, Allen was considered a 'sleeper' by draft analyst Mel Kiper. The Steelers were thrilled when they had the opportunity to select Allen in the 4th round, and have plans to insert him in place of William Gay, who left the team this off-season via free agency. He'll be in the mix along with Keenan Lewis and Curtis Brown.
