Harris was picked up off the scrap heap last season and became a revelation for the 49ers in the wake of season-ending injuries to Carlos Hyde (foot) and Reggie Bush (knee). In the final two games of the campaign with San Francisco, Harris racked up 140 rushing yards and 97 receiving yards. Shaun Draughn has already been named the primary backup to Carlos Hyde to start the season, so Harris will have to compete with Mike Davis for third on the depth chart.
The former undrafted free agent served as Green Bay's No. 3 running back in 2014, piling up 64 rushing yards on just 16 carries, along with 11 yards on his lone reception.
With Johnathan Franklin no longer in the Packers' backfield mix, Harris -- who is fully recovered from a knee injury that slowed him last season -- and James Starks are in line to work in backup roles behind starter Eddie Lacy. At 5-8, 203, Harris -- who could also factor in as a returner -- could emerge as a change-of-pace option for the Packers behind the 5-11, 230-pound Lacy.
Harris emerged from nowhere late in 2012 after the Packers signed him midseason and then promoted him from the practice squad in December. In six games including the playoffs, the small but physical back found the end zone four times. With sub-4.4 speed and toughness between the tackles, the 5-9, 208-pound Harris was a bright spot during the Packers' ugly loss to San Francisco in the playoffs, and his effort seemed to impress the coaching staff, which said he'd have a chance to start this season. Unfortunately, his bid to start at RB for Green Bay was derailed by a knee injury that landed him on IR.
Harris could stick as the team's third running back, but with backup Rashad Jennings healed and ready to roll in 2012, Harris will find himself without significant touches. His speed has made him a bit of a fan favorite and it's possible he enters the game to provide a change of pace, but he won't carry the ball enough to warrant much attention in fantasy circles.
