Marecic was released by the 49ers on Tuesday, the National Football Post reports.

ANALYSIS
Marecic had a history with coach Jim Harbaugh, having previously played under him at Stanford, but that connection wasn't enough to justify a third fullback on the roster behind Bruce Miller and Anthony Dixon. Defensive end Jermaine Cunningham was signed to take Marecic's spot on the roster.

Marecic got some nice run as a rookie. He appeared in 14 games, making four starts and was an effective blocker out of the backfield. He's not much of an offensive weapon as he finished with just eight yards on four carries and five catches for 31 yards. He'll once again be the starting fullback for the Browns leading the way for Cleveland's big new star, Trent Richardson.
