ANALYSIS
Mariani's only offensive touch of the season came in the season finale. The return specialist finishes with 560 kickoff return yards and 235 punt return yards without a touchdown. He made the Pro Bowl back in 2010 but may not be back with the Titans next year after this pedestrian campaign.

Mariani remains a free agent after last playing for the Titans in 2016. Not many teams are in need of a 30-year-old return specialist who contributes almost nothing at wide receiver, so this could be the end of the road for the 2010 Pro Bowl selection.
Entering his seventh NFL season, Mariani has been a solid return man, and he earned a Pro Bowl selection in the 2010 season. With the Bears suffering injuries at the wide receiver position in 2015, he earned five starts, and hauled in 22 passes for 300 yards. He’ll compete for a reserve role in his third year with the team, but unless the team suffers significant injuries at wide receiver, he’s unlikely to be the recipient of many pass targets.
A Pro Bowl return man with the Titans in 2010, Mariani hasn’t resembled a dynamic talent on special teams since breaking his leg in the 2012 preseason. With the Bears receiving little production in the return game midway through last season, Mariani was brought in for the final six games, and finished with an average of 25.5 yards on kickoff returns, which led the team. Even though he’s only 28 years old, Mariani’s best days are probably behind him, but his experience and ability to avoid mistakes while returning may be enough to earn him the job again in 2015. He’ll face competition for those duties from undrafted rookie Levi Norwood, and perhaps free-agent signing Jacquizz Rodgers.
.
Mariani hopes to make the Titans roster as a wide receiver, though he sits at the bottom of the depth chart, or as a return specialist, though he sits behind Darius Reynaud. Coming off a serious leg injury, Mariani has a lot to prove before anything is expected of the former Pro Bowler.
Mariani is very far down the wide receiver depth chart this season, but his real value is on special teams, where he will again be the Titans' primary kick and punt returner.
Rookie receiver who will likely be lined up in the slot for the limited times he will see the field. He may also help returning punts.
