Rest-of-Season Projections
Not expected to be signed by Bucs
Cooper, who participated in the Bucs' rookie mini-camp on a tryout basis this weekend, is not expected to be signed by the team in the near future, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
ANALYSIS
The Bucs opted to kick the tires on the 29-year-old this weekend, but it doesn't appear the veteran did enough to warrant an immediate signing. Naturally, that doesn't close the door on a possible return later in the summer, and Cooper notably already has an advocate on the club in former Eagles teammate DeSean Jackson. However, the additions of Jackson, third-round pick Chris Godwin and promising CFL standout Derel Walker in the offseason have added to a crowded and much deeper wideout corps than the team boasted a year ago at this point. Additionally, after being out of the NFL last season, Cooper was unsurprisingly fighting off some rust throughout the three-day mini-camp.

It's safe to say Cooper's 835-yard, eight-touchdown season from 2013 was a fluke. Despite receiving 11 more targets than in 2013 and catching eight more passes, Cooper somehow totaled 258 fewer yards and five fewer touchdowns in 2014. Even with Jeremy Maclin leaving for Kansas City, Cooper should still get stuck in a modest role due to the first-round selection of Nelson Agholor, who will be an immediate improvement over him. The development of Jordan Matthews and Zach Ertz should further contribute to Cooper's mediocrity.
