Greer has been released by the Saints, NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Greer's 2013 season was cut short in Week 11, when a leg injury landed the cornerback on New Orleans' injured reserve list. The 32-year-old has seen his production drop off in recent seasons, but could land elsewhere as a veteran reserve. In any event, Greer's probably won't be near fantasy radars once next season kicks off.

Greer will compete for a starting cornerback position with Patrick Robinson after the Saints signed Keenan Lewis this offseason. Starting opposite Robinson, Greer saw few attempts to make a fantasy impact with opposing quarterbacks targeting Robinson. If Greer wins the starting position, he could see an uptick in fantasy value with more passes thrown to his side of the field, increasing his chance of recording more interceptions and tackles.
Greer has increased his tackles each year since joining the Saints, up to 60 last year, a very solid number for a cornerback. However, Greer has nearly shut out in the interception department, recording only one on the entire year, despite appearing in every game. Unfortunately, this is not a fluke. Like many elite corners, quarterback simply refuse to throw the ball to their side of the field, providing Greer with few opportunities to pick off passes, a trend likely to continue with an inexperienced secondary around him.
In his first year with the Saints, Greer started nine games and recorded two interceptions (one returned for a touchdown) and 40 tackles in an injury-plagued campaign. As he becomes more familiar with defensive coordinator Gregg Williams' schemes, Greer could see a nice bump in numbers if he stays healthy and may be worthy of fantasy consideration, particularly if teams are forced to throw the ball to play catch up against the Saints' explosive offense.
Greer will likely be one of the Saints starting corners in 2009. Coming from Buffalo, he was one of the more underrated corners in the league, tallying 43 tackles), two interceptions, both which he returned for TDs, nine passes defensed and one forced fumble in only 12 games. Greer will hope to make a similar splash for a team in desperate need of production from the secondary.
Greer emerged as a starter last season for the first time in his career, recording personal bests in both tackles (46) and interceptions (two). He looked poised to enter 2008 as the starter opposite Terrence McGee – until Buffalo selected Leodis McKelvin with the 11th overall pick in the draft. McKelvin will be given every opportunity to start, but Greer won’t concede the job without a fight. He was a star in Buffalo’s offseason activities and may keep his position to start the season, though McKelvin will likely push him back into a nickel role eventually.
