Released by the Bears after suffering an Achilles' injury in training camp, sidelining him for the entire 2013 season.
McBride appeared in only eight games due to injuries last year. However, in limited time in 2010 in Detroit, McBride racked up five sacks. With the Saints desperately in need of a pass rush, McBride could turn some heads this season if he can stay healthy.
The Saints added McBride in an attempt to bolster their struggling pass rush. McBride, coming off the best season of his career, will enter a rotation that features veterans Will Smith and Alex Brown and the Saints' first round pick in the NFL Draft, Cameron Jordan. McBride will be limited due to the talent around him, but may have a chance to showcase his talents early with Smith likely suspended for four games to start the season.
McBride gives the Lions some depth at the defensive end position.
McBride must make the transition from defensive end to outside linebacker as new coach Todd Haley implements a 3-4 defensive system. The switch will inevitably come with some growing pains, which will likely relegate McBride to a backup role behind newcomer Mike Vrabel in 2009.
McBride had a disappointing rookie season, managing just 14 tackles and a sack. Jared Allen’s departure should provide more opportunities for playing time, but McBride will still be in a backup role and unlikely to post IDP-worthy numbers.
Kansas City’s second-round pick may see immediate playing time at defensive end during Jared Allen’s two-game suspension to begin the season. Once Allen returns, McBride will settle into his role as a reserve DE/DT.
